HEART & SOLE WORKSHOP
An alternate school break program for Bibb County students
Providing mentorship for kids age 6-12 with interactive projects that teach your child to be a citizen-artist among master teaching artists
Need childcare options on alternate school breaks (fall break, spring break, asynchronous learning days and more)? Want an enriching program for your child that resonates with them? Looking for a free or affordable option for your child to be doing hands-on, outdoor activities that teach them tangible skills? Then Heart and Soul Workshop is for you.
It’s a program for kids age 6-12 that teaches them to be citizen-artists, making a difference in their world through art, storytelling, and design projects. We will have fun, do engaging service learning work, and learn some of the coolest skills that kids will love to be a part of – graffiti art and muraling technique, photography, videography, fashion design, sneaker art, and more! Students will learn all over their city, meeting some of the greatest leaders and culture makers and learn to express pride in our theme, “THE LOVE FOR MACON.”
Heart and Soul Workship is funded by the MVP Program (Macon Violence Prevention), and therefore is free to most families in Bibb County School District. Classes are taught by master teaching artists Randy Heart, DSTO Moore, and Tray Shelley three Black men who are teachers or fathers themselves, and are eager to share their art with youth.
REGISTER SOON-SPACE IS LIMITED! Students need to be ages 6-12 to participate (students who are ages 13-17 may join us as Assistant Teaching Artists, which comes with a daily volunteer stipend) and have reliable transportation to be dropped off to the program by 8:30 AM and picked up by 5 PM each day (late pickup between 5 and 6 PM will result in a $20 aftercare charge). Additionally, because our program is funded by MVP, parents agree to share student report cards and to participate in a pre-program, mid-program, and post- program survey.
